About me
Anya Covarrubias is a science educator, instructional coach, and national consultant who has spent more than two decades helping teachers create classrooms where students do the thinking. A former high school science teacher, STEM Instructional Coach, and current doctoral researcher, she is passionate about the intersection of Building Thinking Classrooms, NGSS sensemaking, and equitable instruction. Her work focuses on adapting BTC practices beyond mathematics, integrating them with the 5E instructional model, and helping teachers design learning experiences where all students can collaboratively make meaning in real-world, culturally relevant experiences. She is particularly interested in changing deficit beliefs about marginalized students and ensuring that every learner has access to rich and rigorous thinking.
