During the first half of the session, participants will engage in a 6th-grade ratios and proportions thin slicing task. They will begin by huddling up to recall how find equivalent fractions and apply this to solving ratio and proportions problems using different representations. Facilitators will assign participants to random groups of three at whiteboards. Following problem solving, attendees will return to their seats to consolidate the lesson using pre-selected problems.Participants will head back to whiteboards to create notes to their future selves using a graphic organizer. They will return to their seats to tackle hot, medium, and spicy check your understanding problems. In the second half of the session, the facilitators will guide participants in creating their own thin slicing tasks based on guidance from Mathematics Tasks in the Thinking Classroom.
